HOW DO I APPROACH A DOG PROPERLY?

Ia berkaitan dengan " How Do I Approach A Dog Properly?

How Do I Approach A Dog Properly?

DO NOT

- Do not pat the dog on the head

- Do not put your arms around the dog's neck.

-Do not put your face next to the dog's face.

- If the dog does not sniff your hand, or backs away, do not pat it. The dog is telling you it doesn't want to be patted.

-Never run towards the dog and owner. The dog may find this scary or think that you are trying to hurt its owner. Walk calmly towards the dog and owner and don't yell or scream.

DO

- Ask the owner. Always ask the owner first if you can pat the dog. The owner is the best person to know how the dog is feeling. Most times the will sya "Yes" but sometimes it may be not feeling well or tired so the owner may say "Not Today"

- Approach the dog from the front, at a slight angle, so that it can see you.  If you walk straight at the dog it may feel threatened. If you come from behind you may frighten it.

- Let the dog smell the back of your hand with your finger curled under. This is not a fist. Move your hand slowly.

- If the dog sniffs your hand stroke the dog gently.
  • On the side of the chest.
  • On the shoulder.
  • Under the chin

UNFRIENDLY DOGS

What do you do if an unfriendly dog comes up to you? A dog running towards you growling with its teeth showing is very scary. The first thing you often want to do when you are frightened are run away, scream and movw your arms and legs around to protect yourself. Dogs can find this threatening and may cause them to get even angrier. You have to be very brave and follow the steps below, which will help to tell the dog that you are not a threat to it.

  • Stand very still. If you run there is a very good chance that the dog will chase yo
  • Keep your hands by your sides. Do not wave your arms around or try to hit out at the dog.
  • Do not stare at the dog. By looking at the ground or away from the dog you are telling it that you are not a threat to it.
  • When the dog loses interest and leaves slowly and carefully back away. Don't try to move until the dog has left. Don't try and walk past the dog again, go another way.
